Sedation

Fear of going to the dentist is common. Whether the fear stems from trauma as a child, painful procedures as an adult, or stereotypes perpetuated by TV, all may induce fear of dental visits and much needed treatment. Dr. Camenisch provides sedation dentistry to eliminate your stress and anxiety associated with dental procedures.

The two types of conscious sedation dentistry include oral sedation and conscious IV sedation. The different types offer varying levels of anxiety relief, including minimal, moderate, and deep.  The type of sedation administered  depends on the patient’s needs.

Oral sedation relieves your anxiety with a small pill that is taken about an hour before the appointment. This method does not require tubes or needles. The procedure does not begin until you are comfortable and relaxed. A companion will be needed to drive the you home.

Conscious IV sedation is more effective than the other methods because Dr. Camenisch can monitor exactly how much of the sedative is administered. This method is typically used in patients who exhibit moderate to extreme dental anxiety. Our staff carefully monitors your heart rate, blood oxygen levels, blood pressure, and breathing. You are awake throughout the procedure, but the medications used in conscious IV sedation leaves you with amnesia of the procedure. You will remember nothing about the experience!

Dr. Camenisch has received specialized, advanced training to administer conscious IV sedation. She is certified by the state Board of Dental Examiners.

With all of these options, there is nothing to fear about going to the dentist again. It is our goal to make your experience as comfortable as possible.
